Job Title: Field Technician
DETAILS:
• Duration: 6 months Temp to Hire
• Location: Staten Island, NY
• Salary: $28 - $38/hr depending on experience
• Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
We are currently seeking a Field Technician in Staten Island, NY.
Position Summary and Special Duties:
As a Field Technician, your day-to-day duties will consist of, but may not be limited to:
Job Description:
• Perform all aspects of work on rail cars being processed through the New Haven Rail Yard and Commissioning Warranty Sites. This includes all electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, repairs, modifications, and other duties requested by the supervisor.
• Work on rail cars in the final assembly process at the New Haven facility or at remote sites.
• Use standard hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets, etc.) and perform basic troubleshooting utilizing multi-meters and PC-based test equipment.
• Read piping diagrams, mechanical drawings, technical manuals, and electrical schematics to accomplish job assignments.
Perform test procedures on various systems, including:
  • HVAC
  • Brakes
  • Propulsion
  • Communications systems
  • Toilet systems
  • Trainline systems
  • Sign systems
  • Automatic Train Control systems
  • General functional tests
  • Hipotential tests
  • Wiring Continuity Tests
  • Pneumatic Leakage Tests
  • Dynamic Tests
  • Burn-in tests
    • Occasionally assist and support the engineering group with various engineering tests.
    • Interact directly with customers and communicate clearly and confidently regarding assignments.
    • Complete all test documentation, reports, and other required documentation accurately.
    • Operate without direct supervision and take the lead on assignments, guiding Function Test Technicians or Rail Car Technicians.
    • Initiate calls for vendor, engineering, or manufacturing support as needed and report results or request further assistance.
    • Enter discrepancies into the database system and accurately report time on the job to the supervisor.
Job Specification:
• Previous work experience in the electrical or mechanical testing field.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or associate degree in engineering preferred.
• Proficiency in reading and understanding electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Proficiency with basic hand tools and power tools.
• Ability to use multi-meters, chart recorders, oscilloscopes, and network analyzers.
• Basic proficiency with portable test equipment (PTE) and the ability to download and analyze data.
• Proficient in the English measurement system and ability to learn the Metric measurement system.
• Capable of working under pressure with specific deadlines.
• Ability to work flexible hours and any shift.
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders and lift, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.
• Comfortable working in a rail yard environment.
• Willing to travel for business trips or field assignments—extensive travel may be required.
• Proficient with MS Office applications and other industry-related software applications.
• Ability to lead tasks and assist other technicians.
• Ability to perform some troubleshooting utilizing downloads, schematics, and manuals.
• Ability to analyze problems and data and issue comprehensive reports detailing the analysis.
• Ability to communicate clearly with customers.
Work Environment:
The work environment involves working on rail cars in an active yard or remote sites. The position requires both indoor and outdoor work with strict adherence to safety protocols and quality standards.
