- Base Location for Training: Greenbelt (GB), MD
- Future Locations May Include: West Falls Church, Shady Grove, and others
- Pay: $27.00/hr + Overtime Opportunities
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 5:00 PM – 2:00 AM
- Openings: 4
- Start Date: ASAP
- Benefits: Optional Cafeteria Style while on contract (to pick up as needed)
We are currently hiring 24 Rail Car Technicians for a leading rail car manufacturing company with multiple projects across Maryland and Virginia. This is an exciting opportunity for those with hands-on mechanical, military, or automotive experience to break into the high-growth transportation manufacturing industry.
Position Summary and Special Duties:
As a Rail Car Technician, your day-to-day duties will consist of, but may not be limited to:
Mechanical Responsibilities:
- Analyze, test, troubleshoot, and perform mechanical repairs on Rail Cars
- Perform metal finishing efficiently and properly
- Set up all work on a rail car using drawings, procedures, and instructions
- Create production aids such as templates and jigs
- Repair various materials accurately
- Build jigs, fixtures, and production time-saving devices
Electrical Responsibilities:
- Assemble and terminate wire harnesses
- Route cable or wire in complex areas like cabs and electric lockers
- Troubleshoot electrical issues using schematics
- Solder wire connections as required
Requirements and Skills:
Must Haves:
- 3+ years of mechanical experience (automotive/military/avionics experience is relevant)
- Electrical wiring experience
- Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments
- Ability to read schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools
- Strong troubleshooting skills
Other Expectations:
- Must have reliable transportation – this is a roaming project
- Training will occur at Greenbelt, MD, followed by assignments in Alexandria, VA and Dulles, VA
- Travel distances: Alexandria ~25 miles, Dulles ~45.9 miles from GB
- Future work at WFC, Shady Grove, or additional locations possible
Work Environment:
- Work takes place in a maintenance facility and active rail yard
- Combination of indoor and outdoor settings depending on project needs
- Working in the elements – must be comfortable working outdoors
- Working around trains and moving equipment
- Steel-toe work boots required
- Strict adherence to safety protocols and quality standards
