Job Title: Rail Car Technician
DETAILS:
• Duration: 6 months Temp to Hire
• Location: Pitkin, Brooklyn, NY
• Salary: $22.61/hr depending on experience
• Hours: Monday to Friday, 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM
• Openings: 2 Positions
• Benefits: Optional while on contract to pick up as needed, full benefits once permanent.
We are currently seeking 2 Rail Car Technicians in Marina Terminal, Brooklyn, NY.
Position Summary and Special Duties:
As a Rail Car Technician, your day-to-day duties will consist of, but may not be limited to:
Job Description:
MUST HAVES:
- Mechanical aptitude
- Electrical wiring experience
- Ability to work outdoors and indoors
Rail Car Technician (RCT)
• Analyze, test, troubleshoot, and perform mechanical repairs on Rail Cars.
• Technical experience in US Military, Avionics, or Automotive industries is comparable and applicable.
Mechanical Responsibilities:
• Perform metal finishing efficiently and properly.
• Set up all work on a rail car efficiently using drawings, procedures, and written/verbal instructions.
• Create production aids such as templates and hand jigs to assist work.
• Perform acceptable repairs on various materials.
• Build jigs, fixtures, and other production time-saving devices from drawings.
• Use hand and power (electrical and pneumatic) tools efficiently.
Electrical Responsibilities:
• Assemble wire harnesses and terminate wire ends efficiently.
• Route cable or wire in complex areas such as cabs, electric lockers, or train line boxes based on drawings.
• Troubleshoot electrical issues and misfires with a working knowledge of electrical schematics.
• Perform soldering to make wire connections as required.
Additional Expectations:
• Work comfortably in both indoor and outdoor environments.
• Possess strong work ethic and flexibility in work schedules.
Skills Required:
- Mechanical and electrical expertise
- Proficiency in blueprint and schematic reading
- Strong troubleshooting and testing abilities
Job Specification:
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics.
• Experience with both hand and power tools used in assembly and repair work.
• Proficiency in identifying and resolving complex technical issues.
• Flexibility to work different shifts or overtime if required.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or with a team.
Work Environment:
The work environment involves working on rail cars in an active rail yard with exposure to indoor and outdoor conditions. Strict adherence to safety protocols and quality standards is required.
