Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced FMI Supervisor to oversee daily operations at our rail car maintenance facility in West Falls Church, VA. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supervising maintenance operations, ensuring safety, quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge, supervisory experience, and the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement business strategies aligned with company objectives.
- Supervise and coordinate daily site operations.
- Lead, coach, develop, and retain employees while managing performance.
- Plan staffing needs and succession planning for key personnel.
- Handle employee relations, coaching, and disciplinary matters.
- Establish work schedules and ensure production goals are achieved.
- Train employees on procedures, work methods, and safety requirements.
- Coordinate daily rail car maintenance activities based on customer priorities.
- Supervise clerical and technical personnel.
- Control labor hours to meet budget objectives and minimize overtime.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Prepare daily work schedules and monitor work progress.
- Review and submit daily labor vouchers.
- Ensure compliance with all customer and company safety procedures.
- Coordinate engineering modifications and repair activities.
- Manage vendor activities and warranty documentation.
- Work independently while maintaining strong communication with customers and management.
Qualifications
- 1+ year of supervisory experience in warranty, production, quality, engineering, manufacturing, or industrial operations
OR
- 3+ years of mechanical or technical experience with leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
Preferred Skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of English and Metric measurement systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer proficiency with reporting and documentation.
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs as needed.
Work Environment
This position is based at a rail car maintenance facility in West Falls Church, VA and includes both indoor and outdoor work. Safety, quality, and efficiency are critical, with strict adherence to customer and company procedures while supervising daily maintenance operations.
