Function Test Technician

Location: Coney Island, NY
Shift: Monday–Friday, 7:00am -4pm
Duration: 6 Months Temp-to-Hire
Pay Rate: $26.00/hr

Position Overview

We are actively hiring a Function Test Technician for a manufacturing and transportation-focused facility in Coney Island, NY. This hands-on role is responsible for performing functional testing, troubleshooting, inspections, and verification activities on rail car systems and components. Candidates with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, maintenance, assembly, testing, or quality experience are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Perform functional testing of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and electromechanical systems and components
• Follow test procedures, work instructions, schematics, and engineering documentation
• Troubleshoot equipment and identify root causes of failures or non-conforming conditions
• Document test results, discrepancies, and corrective actions accurately
• Verify system functionality and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards
• Utilize hand tools, power tools, meters, gauges, and testing equipment as required
• Support production and quality teams in resolving technical issues and completing inspections
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in testing, maintenance, manufacturing, assembly, quality, electrical, mechanical, or industrial environments
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation
• Experience using electrical test equipment such as multimeters and other diagnostic tools preferred
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Ability to accurately document findings and complete required paperwork
• Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand and power tools
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
• Capable of lifting, pushing, or pulling materials weighing up to 40 lbs.
• Able to work in an active manufacturing environment, including climbing stairs and ladders when necessary

Preferred Qualifications

• Rail, transit, transportation, aerospace, military, automotive, manufacturing, or industrial maintenance experience
• Electrical assembly, wiring, testing, or commissioning experience
• Quality inspection and troubleshooting experience

Work Environment

This position is based in a structured, safety-focused manufacturing environment supporting rail transportation equipment. The Function Test Technician plays a critical role in ensuring products meet operational, quality, and customer requirements prior to delivery.
