Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Mold Designer to join our Portland, CT manufacturing team on 1st shift. In this role, you will design precision molds for rubber and polymer-based products, taking product concepts from design to production-ready tooling. Your work will directly impact product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and on-time delivery for critical applications.
Principal Responsibilities
Create detailed 2D and 3D mold designs using CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent)
Interpret product drawings and technical requirements to develop tooling that meets performance and cost targets
Design mold components including cores, cavities, runners, cooling systems, and ejector systems
Collaborate with engineering, tooling, and production teams to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability
Provide design input during product development and participate in design reviews
Revise and optimize existing tooling based on testing, feedback, or production data
Prepare technical documentation including part drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs)
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling efficiency, performance, and cost reduction
Requirements & Qualifications
3+ years of mold design experience, ideally in rubber, plastic, or polymer-based molding
Proficiency in CAD design software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD (3D modeling and drafting)
Strong understanding of mold construction, tolerancing, parting lines, gates, venting, and cooling systems
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T
Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve design challenges
Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering, tooling, and production teams
Work Environment
