Job Title: Quality Lab Technician
Location: Wallingford, CT
Pay Rate: $29–31.25/hr or $60–65K (Based on Experience)
Type: 3-Month Contract-to-Hire (Temp-to-Perm)
Position Overview
The Quality Technician – Quality Lab supports quality assurance and engineering by inspecting, testing, and validating electronic and RF-based components to blueprint and customer requirements. This is a hands-on, detail-driven role focused on First Article Inspections (FAIRs), calibration, non-standard testing, and compliance within an AS9100 aerospace quality environment.
This role also supports engineering development efforts, performs diversified lab duties, and works cross-functionally to ensure product quality and customer compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, set up, and operate test equipment and products in proper sequence, including wiring, fitting, aligning, and assembly of electrical components
- Perform First Article Inspections (FAIRs) to AS9102 and customer-specific requirements
- Interface cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality to coordinate inspections and testing
- Perform non-standard inspections and testing to ensure conformance to customer-specific criteria
- Use a variety of test and inspection equipment, including:
- Network analyzers
- Hi-pot testers
- Megohmmeters
- Linear gauges
- Heat-treating equipment
- Perform critical laboratory testing using both standard and non-standard inspection methods
- Record and analyze test results; recommend product and process improvements
- Execute ERP (SAP) transactions to move approved parts into stock
- Perform scheduled calibration of mechanical and electrical gauges and instrumentation
- Support customer source inspections and First Article approvals through customer portals
- Interface with departments for both standard and non-standard testing requirements
- Participate in and promote continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Obtain and maintain required internal and customer-related certifications
Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience with:
- Radio Frequency (RF) and interconnect products
- Fiber optic cabling
- Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs)
- Experience creating FAIRs using AS9102 and Net-Inspect
- Ability to analyze product requirements from purchase orders and blueprints
- Ability to optimize inspection plans based on product type and requirements
- Strong attention to detail; ability to work on small parts with zero-defect expectations
- Comfortable working in both inches and millimeters (English & metric systems)
Preferred Certifications & Experience
- AS9100 environment experience
- IPC Certifications (strongly preferred):
- Experience supporting engineering development and product validation
- Strong understanding of FAIR documentation and compliance to AS9102 standards
