Job Title: Rail Car Technician
Location: Long Island City, NY (Arch Street)
Duration: Long-Term Contract
Openings: 5 Total
  • 3 openings focused on electrical wiring
  • 2 openings focused on mechanical work
    Pay: $26/hour
    Shift: Monday – Friday | 7am -4pm
    Benefits: Optional cafeteria-style benefits for contractors; full benefits available upon permanent hire
Position Overview
We are currently seeking Rail Car Technicians to support rail car assembly, maintenance, and repair operations at the Long Island City facility. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude and/or electrical wiring experience, with the ability to work from blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Responsibilities (2 Openings)
  • Perform metal finishing efficiently and accurately
  • Set up and execute work on rail cars using drawings, procedures, and verbal instructions
  • Create production aids such as templates and hand jigs
  • Perform repairs on various materials
  • Build jigs, fixtures, and other production time-saving devices
  • Use electrical and pneumatic hand and power tools safely and effectively
Electrical Responsibilities (3 Openings – Wiring Focus)
  • Assemble wire harnesses and terminate wire ends
  • Route cables and wiring through complex areas such as cabs, electric lockers, and train line boxes
  • Read and troubleshoot electrical schematics
  • Perform soldering to complete wire connections
Required Skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and/or electrical wiring experience
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation
  • Experience troubleshooting and performing repairs
  • Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments as required
Preferred Background
  • Technical experience in U.S. Military, Navy, Army, Avionics, Rail, or Automotive industries highly transferable
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols
  • Reliable work ethic and schedule flexibility
Work Environment
Work is performed in a rail maintenance facility with both indoor and outdoor exposure depending on project needs. Strict safety and quality standards are maintained at all times.
