Position summary
The Software Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of data collection and control software supporting turbine engine test equipment. This role works closely with engineering, customers, and suppliers to deliver reliable, high-performance test systems used in aviation and gas turbine applications. The position requires strong programming skills, hands-on troubleshooting ability, and comfort supporting complex test environments both remotely and on-site.
Essential duties and responsibilities
• Design and implement data collection software for turbine engine test equipment using LabVIEW and National Instruments hardware
• Serve as a technical reference for customers and key suppliers within the assigned area of expertise
• Review technical documentation including specifications, programs, and manuals to ensure all project requirements are met
• Perform system installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting both remotely and at customer facilities
• Support instrumentation, data acquisition, and control system integration
• Provide internal IT and server support as needed
• Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering teams
• Travel domestically and internationally as required to support customer projects
Education and experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science (preferred)
• Strong programming background required
• Prior experience working in test, system engineering, or industrial environments preferred
Skills, specialized knowledge, or certifications
• Experience with LabVIEW and National Instruments hardware
• Programming experience with Visual Basic and/or C++
• Experience integrating instrumentation sensors and Analog/Digital I/O (temperature, pressure, speed, vibration, etc.)
• Understanding of calibration and metrology principles
• Knowledge of gas turbine or aircraft engine operation preferred
• Experience with PLC integration and testing a plus
• Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently in customer-facing environments
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally
